Parihaka

Today we are talking about Parihaka.
One hundred and fifty years ago there was a village called Parihaka between the Taranaki mountains and the coast side. In Parihaka they put albatross's feathers on their heads because the albatross would land on the marae and it would leave an albatross feather. The Parihaka people weren't afraid of the soldiers. If the soldiers burnt their village they would just build it back. They knew the soldiers would come and shoot them but the Parihaka people just gave them some bread. The soldiers felt stink because the people were being nice to them even though they had come to shoot them.

St Mary MacKillop

We went to church when it was Mary MacKillop's feast day. Afterwards, we had to answer three questions.

Who is Mary MacKillop?
Mary MacKillop was an Australian nun who helped the kids who had no money..

What did Mary MacKillop do?
Mary’s first job was as a clerk when she was 14. She worked for a governess for her cousins.

How did she become a Saint?
In June 1995 Mary MacKillop was beatified. Someone who had cancer prayed to her and they got better.

Maximilian Kolbe

We are learning about saints. I enjoyed learning about what Maximilian did. I found it difficult to find the information because there was a lot of stuff that he did.

Maximilian’s feast day is on August 14th.
He is the patron of drug addicts, prisoners, and families. He was born on January the 8 in 1894.  His real name was Raymund Kolbe.

Maximilian was taken to a prison and he used to pray for the guards. Then one day this man was going to be executed. Maximilian said, “Execute me,” because the other man had a wife and a son and a daughter. So they executed Maximilian. He died in August 14 in 1941.

Copper nails

We were learning how to transfer iron nails to copper. I enjoyed watching the copper transfer to the iron nails.

 Here is my explanation...

Have you ever wondered how copper transfers to iron nails? First we put salt and vinegar in a cup then we put the copper in the cup. Then we wait an hour then we pulled out the copper wire it started to rust then we put the copper wire in a cup. Then we put the iron nails in the cut the nail were absorbing the copper the next day the nails had turned into copper nails.
